Health Check Day

Dragon Boat Festival Day. Tiger was brought to the vet in a carton box. Staff in the clinic was happy to find that its weight has increased to 0.6 kg, i.e. 3 times as heavy as it was. Health is fine but some treatments are to continue:
1. For ear - cleansing using Oridermyl every two days for two weeks
2. For flea prevention - second application of 6% Selamectin solution on skin
3. For parasites prevention - intake of 0.3 cc Panacur daily for 3 days

At the same time, Mau B also used 10% Fipronil solution (the famous Frontline) as a cautionary measure.

After the treatments, I separate them so they won't lick the somehow toxic flea medication applied.

BTW, I forgot to ask the vet to check Tiger's sex. (How could I??). I still think it is a she. I'll make sure I ask in the next visit.

Slipper Fight

A highly difficult position was assumed by Tiger during a wrestling exercise with its make-believe "enemy", i.e. my foot and slipper. Eventually I lost of course. Still it would not let me surrender. Kittens are born fighters that need no warm up at all. Posted by Picasa

Stand Up!

It was rare but one day Tiger just stood up for a few seconds on its own. Seems it was looking at something interesting which I did not figure out. I had a good look on the strips on its belly. Tiger is indeed the right name. Posted by Picasa

Progress Report No. 1

After more than 2 weeks rehabilitation, Tiger has obviously grown in length and its belly. Its head and body are in a better proportion. The next time we take it to the vet we will check its weight and sex again. BTW, it seems to be a girl. In these photos, Tiger was exploring a television and a DVD player. Posted by Picasa

Tiger and My Slipper

My slippers are still one of Tiger's favourite to use as a bed or pillow, sometimes even when I was wearing them (of course I would not show such unsightly pictures :) Posted by Picasa

How do they get along?

Very close and friendly? Seems but not actually or always. There are times they get really rough with each other. Mau B acts sometimes quite motherly and sometimes beasty. Tiger is no easy victim either, as you can see. When it is losing, Tiger may yell for our intervention. I won't say it is domestic violence but more or less their nature. Nevertheless, they continue to stick together. Posted by Picasa

Mau B, Tiger's Companion

貓 B, or "Mau B", a smart cat, will be an important friend (and/or rival?) in Tiger's life. She had survived some cold days on roadside before she caught me two and a half years back. Tiger has a lot to learn from her. Also there are a lot more that Tiger ought *not learn from her, we hope. Posted by Picasa

Day 4: It's got a Name

Until yesterday, we called it 細B (Small B) to differentiate it from 大B (Big B), another cat that we currently have. I know, such naming reflected our uncreativeness. Today, Ruby said eagerly she had to name it Tiger 仔 (litte tiger) as it looked like one. I agreed at once. Tiger is healing quickly and very active. Posted by Picasa

Day 3: Cat in the House

It looked very delighted in its bright orange house. It had a style, and was not as cooperative as it did when I gave it eye drops and cleaned its ears. Posted by Picasa

Day 2: Went to a Vet

A consultation to the vet revealed:

1. It weighed 0.2 kg.
2. Sex unsure (it's too young to tell).
3. It needed treatment for fleas, its eyes, ears, and worms (if any).
4. It should be separated from other animals to avoid infections.

We bought baby kitten food, a sand box and a soft house. It did not look too bad after the treatment. Posted by Picasa

Day 1 (30/4/06): Once an Abandoned Kitten

Date: 30/4/06
Time: 11:10 p.m.
Venue: pavement, Kowloon City Market, Hong Kong

Conditions of the kitten:
very light with grey and brown hair, tiny voice, shaky moves, climbed up to my shoes when I was getting to my car.

I had hesitated for some seconds before deciding to find it a home. People around was somewhat interested but sure nobody wanted it.

When I brought it home, Ruby seemed hesitant too. We got one cat already. Another one could cause even more damage to our home. We would see.

A long bath rid dozens of fleas from kitten. It slept in a carton box for the night.
